A Tooth Fairy Tale Film Analysis: Animated Journey with a Touch of Family-Friendly Tween Love Story
Throughout this cartoon adventure for preteens, the fairy community focuses on collecting teeth from sleeping children and leaving treasure beneath where they sleep. Board-riding teenage rebel fairy Van (brought to life by Booboo Stewart) is less than thrilled about devoting his life to gathering baby teeth—a sentiment that’s entirely reasonable. He is just slightly more curious about the financial workings of the situation: the fairies deliver the teeth to unseen goblins, who provide metal as payment. But Van’s curiosity grows when he spots a goblin (voiced by Larkin Bell), who turns out to be far from the hideous creature he had imagined.
An Unlikely Connection and Shared Threat
Everything is prepared for an adventure with a gentle touch of teen romance (though it’s very much suitable for children). The fairy and goblin groups are estranged from each other, and nothing fuels the excitement of secrecy to unite beings as one. Both groups as seen here are incredibly similar, yet each holds biased views about the other. The fairies are supposed to be self-centered sorts, prone to stealing whatever they fancy, while goblins are reportedly dim-witted, smelly, and primitive, but are actually intelligent and technologically advanced.
Naturally, this scenario requires a common enemy to unite against, and this is duly provided by some nasty spiders, voiced by Jon Lovitz and Fran Drescher. There’s no beating about the bush about their intentions: they want to eat the fairies and goblins, and they make for quite savage, if not particularly skilled, villains.
Target Audience and Overall Impression
There aren’t all that many animated films aimed at the viewer group that is starting to experience first crushes, but are not old enough for whatever teenagers view these days in lieu of popular teen sagas. Should your youngster falls into this age group, it probably won’t to become their new all-time fave, but it’s a decent choice.
The Tooth Fairy Story arrives in Scottish cinemas starting October 10 and across the United Kingdom beginning October 24.
