Alarming Video Captures Instant Police Are Stabbed in Surprise Attack
A senior officer who rushed to the help of a fellow officer that got attacked by a blade-wielder was granted the Royal Recognition for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a blade to the neck of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a traffic accident in the area in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman attacked," the officer could be heard saying over his communication device.
Bodyworn and dashcam video made public by the agency showed Brown, wearing in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sergeant Foster from behind with a blade pointed forward.
He struck the policeman who lost balance and fell to the pavement, after which Sgt Ansell stepped in and attempted to subdue him to the ground although being continually attacked with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and sought a clear shot, ending the fight to an finish.
Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get help on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple open wounds to his throat and further cuts to his arms and torso, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.
Officials said Sergeant Foster employed his hands to stop his partner's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel reached the scene.
This most recent honor comes after the three officers won internal Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the police federation award from the local officer association in April 2024.
They further earned a Area Bravery Award in July 2024.
"The actions of the entire team in the end rescued each other and ensured no bystanders suffered any harm."
Brown received a sentence to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, according to officials.
