Brave Rail Employee Receives Life-Threatening Wounds Amid Multiple Knife Attack on High-Speed Service

A brave train staff member who intervened to save passengers during a multiple stabbing incident on a express train has sustained critical wounds, police stated on Sunday.

Particulars of the Frightening Event

CCTV footage reportedly shows the employee trying to stop the assailant as the train journeyed between Peterborough and another station in Cambridgeshire. Bystanders recounted a terrifying 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in custody for interrogation. Police announced a significant event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Crisis Reaction and Consequences

The event on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have since been discharged from medical care.

A bystander recorded the individual waving a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced police on the platform. He was reportedly heard yelling, "Kill me, end my life."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. My thoughts and those of everyone in British Transport Police are with those injured and their families – particularly the brave member of train personnel whose family are being supported by specialist officers,” said a senior law enforcement official.

Labor Response and Calls for Measures

Train associations were swift to praise staff and call for increased action. A union leader said he would be “requesting urgent discussions with government, train companies and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest available assistance, tools and robust protocols in operation”.

Another association leader urged the train operator and government “to act swiftly to review safety, to help the affected workers, and to make sure nothing like this occurs again”.

Operator Commended for Rapid Action

The operator who stopped the train at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been praised by union officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“The driver didn’t stop the train in the center of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he continued traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was almost waiting,” stated a union representative.

Further Information

Police said they received the first emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the train was compelled to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described initially thinking if the situation was a Halloween joke, but soon realized from people's expressions that it was real.

Authorities have confirmed there is nothing to suggest the incident was a terrorist incident and have asked the public to provide with any further details.

Train operations on the affected line are anticipated to have disruption until Monday, with travelers advised to defer their journeys where possible.

Anyone with information that could help the inquiry are asked to reach authorities by sending a message a designated number with a case code.
