Worshippers displayed "immediate courage" in stopping the assailant from gaining entry, authorities confirmed

A rabbi has recounted the instant when a man attempted to barge into his Manchester house of worship during a fatal attack, saying "I observed evil, I witnessed hate".

The cleric explained that he and congregation members secured the entrances of the worship house as the assailant was "forcing the doors, throwing large flower containers, trying whatever he was able to to gain entry".

Praising the fast-acting of those at the temple, he said: "I witnessed true courage, I must admit, and individuals who hurried to help fellow members rather than fleeing. It was amazing."

"The family is stunned by the devastating, unexpected death of such a lovely modest man" the statement added, as the family asked for privacy to process their loss.
