The England manager Questions Home Crowd Support Despite Dominant Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his sadness that the England team did not receive greater backing from the home crowd during their commanding 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday night.
The manager was satisfied to see his team showcase their winning momentum, with strikes from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the initial stages effectively ending the match. Yet, he was displeased with the mood at the national stadium.
“We had one and a half sessions to prepare against a organized team and we excelled,” the coach commented. “We could have been five goals ahead at the break. We couldn’t score the additional goals. It was quiet. There was no support from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you deliver in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. If you hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s regrettable because the team deserved greater backing today.”
“I maintain my words. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a little more support in moments where it gets difficult.”
“In the second half, to support us, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to refocus, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Away from risking a dispute among fans, the manager also caused a stir by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the move was backed up by Rogers excelling in the attacking midfield role and scoring his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his position.”
Bellamy Seeks Improvement from Defeat
Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, take lessons from their poor first-half display.
“This is why I wanted this friendly,” the manager commented. “I need to see our standing. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Ollie Watkins was substituted at the break after colliding with a post and will be a doubt when the national team face Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
